ColumnistHe Must Increase, But I Must Decrease: Summary of John 3:22-36
by Teresa(1,640) Bronze Star

Read John 3:22 -36 In this portion of Scripture, we see a shift in leadership. Up until this point, the people were following John the Baptist and his ministry. Though John always pointed to Jesus, it is evident the people were loyal to him, rather than Jesus. John responded to them with humility and he reminded them of his words early on: " You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, I have been sent before Him. " John 3:28 With this, he continued to elevate Jesus to His proper status as the bridegroom, while calling himself a friend of the bridegroom. This analogy would prove to be true description of Jesus over time. As Jesus began to baptize... (read the rest of what Teresa Ortiz wrote.)

by Teresa(1,640) Bronze Star

Read John 4:1-42 In this portion of Scripture, we continue to see the rise in the ministry of Jesus. He just left Judea and was returning to Galilee. As he journeyed back, he went through a town called Samaria, were he had a divine encounter with a woman - a woman who was/is a picture of humanity as a whole on many levels, as we will see. It is interesting that Jesus chose this woman, one who was no doubt despised by many to reveal His true Identity and nature. Jesus shares several foundational doctrines with her. True to his nature, he uses the physical to reveal the spiritual. THE CONVERSATION As Jesus was resting by the well, a woman came to draw water. She came at an hour... Discussion Questions John 4:1-42: Samaritans, Jews, and Jesus
by Teresa(1,640) Bronze Star

In order to fully appreciate this portion of Scripture, it is important to look into the history of the Samaritans. Why such hostility? Even to the point that Jesus being called a Samaritan was a most derogatory statement; meant to sting on many levels. The Scriptures noted and questions posed will cover the basics. I found myself engaged to the point that it was difficult to know where to begin and end. Therefore, I strongly encourage you to dig a little deeper, and read more of the historical background offered by extra-biblical historians. If you have a deeper knowledge on this subject, please do not hesitate to share in the comments section below. If you haven't read the summary... (read the rest of what Teresa Ortiz wrote.)

Signs And Wonders: Summary John 4:43-54
by Teresa(1,640) Bronze Star

Read John 4:43-54 Jesus traveled from Samaria back to Galilee. He was well received by the Galileans because of all that he did while at the feast in Jerusalem. In this portion of Scripture, we get a glimpse of the sadness which was filling the heart of Jesus. It is evident by his response to the nobleman who insisted He go to Capernaum to heal his son " " Then Jesus said to him, 'Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe' " John 4:48 As he continued toward home, this man's servants came to greet him and to let him know that his son was alive and well. After confirming the hour his son's condition changed, his faith was sure, not only his... (read the rest of what Teresa Ortiz wrote.)
