We are Deceived

by Swapna Nanda

Have you ever thought about why Eve agreed to eat the fruit so readily which God had forbidden them in the Garden of Eden.

She was deceived - unfortunately deception is not easy to detect.

Satan’s intention was to change Adam and Eve’s thinking about God and His ways.

His objective was to drive a wedge between God and His creatures.

Satan knew that he could seduce them, trick them with lies that may not actually seem “anti-God”.

Satan deceived Eve through a clever combination of out right lies, half-truths, and falsehood disguised as truths. He began by planting seeds of doubts in Eve’s mind.

“ Did God really say……?” Genesis 3:1

Next Satan led Eve to be careless about God’s Word. He suggested that God had said something that in fact he has not said. Genesis 3: 3

Satan deceived Eve by causing her to question the goodness, love, and motives of God. “Did God say……….”? The implication was: He doesn’t want you to be happy.

Satan also lied to her about the consequences. Gen 2:17.; 3:4. He flatly contradicted what God has said.

The devil seduced her by offering all kinds of benefits.

Satan deceived Eve by causing her to make her decision based on what she could see and on what her emotions and her reason told her to be right, even when it was contrary to what God has already told the couple.

We too have been deceived.

The seed of doubting God that has been transmitted to us is now at work within us too. We always hesitate to depend upon God’s Word and tend to reply more on  worldly knowledge and experience, always going to God last.

Satan always delights to see us confused, disoriented, and out of focus in this world. He delights when we are far away from God drowning in despair and depression. One of the saddest pictures is to find a Christian – purchased and washed by the blood of Jesus, yet in a beggarly state. It must be very disheartening for God too, to see His children not living like the King’s son and daughter but like a slave.

As His offspring, let us make it a practice to store His Word in our hearts so deeply that nothing can separate us from His love.
