Bite Sized Food for the Soul - Scriptures for Anxiety: Put This on Your Fridge

by Teresa(1,648) Bronze Star
Freelance writer/Speaker

Sometimes we can be too hard on ourselves, other times we are not hard enough. As people of faith how do we find the balance?  It is in the study of God's word and continued fellowship with him that we find contentment, confidence, and steady growth.

In-depth study of the Bible is essential and should never be put aside for 10 - minute "pick me ups". Nevertheless, there are times when a few Scriptures are enough to give us the boost we need to get back on track. For this reason, I am a big believer in making lists of different passages which speak to a specific emotion I might be dealing with.

This is the purpose of this series and I pray it will be a source of encouragement to you.  Feel free to print this list and post it on your refrigerator. Feeding your spirit along with your body can do wonders for your day! It may be that you already do this, but if not, please join me today.

SCRIPTURES TO CALM YOUR ANXIETY AND FEAR (NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)

"You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fix on you! Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock" Isaiah 26:3 - 4

"Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary, No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, even young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:28 - 31

"So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." 1 Peter 5:6 - 7

"Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, "for your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.") No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us." Romans 8:35 - 37

"I came naked from my mother's womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!" In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God." Job 1:21 - 22

"For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. "they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

Keep these Scriptures close to your heart; read them daily, believe them. Add to them and be blessed.

Heavenly Father,

Sometimes its hard to understand what is happening. Nothing seems that it will have a good result in the end, yet your word promises it to be so. Forgive me for doubting and allowing fear to take over. Free me from my anxiousness and help me to rest in your promises. There are things you allow to happen so that we will learn to trust in you and so that we will have better judgement. Help me to learn from my mistakes so that I will do better next time around and perhaps spare myself future pain.  Father, I pray for my family members and friends. Keep them sheltered by your protective hand and help them to make wise decisions.  I pray they will draw near to you, that you may be near to them.

Thank you for your faithfulness. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Thanks, Teresa,

I have a friend in California that I grew up with her name is Jodi.  She has been going through some really hard times with her mom (who is on her deathbed), brother, etc.  She is divorced, but has two great sons (with grandchildren), she has lost her job and is looking for another one.  This article is perfect for her, so I am sending it to her.

God bless and Happy Easter!!!!

Love,

Cathy

Hi Cathy,

I will be praying for Jodi --In fact, let's pray right now.

Father, thank you that you know all things and you understand what Jodi is facing during this time in her life.  I pray for an extra measure of your love and your grace to be poured over her. Even now Lord, as I pray, may she feel your loving arms around her. Bring a mighty miracle her way - she needs grace and comfort for her mother. Be with her mom, also Lord.  She needs a job and you know the unspoken needs of her heart. honor those this moment Lord, and bring about the good in this situation.

Thank you for her son's and grandchildren. May you give them wisdom as to how they can help during this time.  We trust you for the outcome and thank you for it now.  In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Thank you for being a good friend to her. (and me.)

Hugs, Teresa

Teresa, what a wonderful and helpful article for all of us, I like the one , (which I used at my mothers funeral, the one you wrote about , and I quote;

"I came naked from my mother's womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!" In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God." Job 1:21 - 22

I really liked this article as it is a great reference for all of us, well done!! Oh, I do have a question, since you are well informed about the bible, can you explain, or interpet for me the "Eye for an eye" theory. What does this mean, I always hear folks say this, "Well, you know the old saying, an eye for an eye, and tooth for a tooth", someone told me it was from the bible, but I don't know what chapter and verse, but if you get a chance, could you explain what was meant by that saying, and why? Is it really from the bible? Your pal, and fan......Gary, Great article....

Hi Gary, Thanks for reading. I am so glad it is helpful.  I know so many who are struggling. Myself included. But God's grace is amazing!  We just need to believe and trust what we say we believe and trust :-)

Good question.  Yes, that saying is from the Bible, it is part of God's instructions to the Israelites regarding proper and balanced punishment.  It is was also quoted by Jesus in the New Testament in the same context, only he included an added twist and talked about turning the other cheek.  I cannot possibly give this Justice here in this response, so I am going to give it more time and space by writing an article about it. I will give it an explanation as I have come to understand it.

Give me a day or two to put it together.  Thanks for the question and the idea for a lesson. I am excited to do this.  This was actually a prayer of mine, that questions would be asked so that I would have an idea of what others want to read about.

Blessings to you!

Teresa
