Confessions of a Doubting Thomas -- eerr Teresa (My Bunny Tale)

by Teresa(1,652) Bronze Star

Three days ago I sent out a mayday on my Facebook wall. It went something like this: “Not a good day. JJ, (my son’s rabbit) has escaped. With two acres of land and lots of trees…”

I wasn’t surprised when I had a few comments from friends saying they would pray for little JJ to find his way home. After searching for him for several hours, I figured he was long gone – hopping down the bunny trail off to do what bunnies do.

My son Justin, and his girlfriend, Jessica – hence the name JJ – were bummed, but did not display any signs of real detriment, so I was feeling a little better about the situation. Sometime yesterday, I posted an update. ”Looks like JJ has ran off to greener pastures.”  With that, I received another offer for continued prayer. One I was quite grateful for despite my own doubts. After all, it’s only a bunny rabbit, a cute one, but a rabbit nonetheless.

Although I have grown to love dogs, I have never been very comfortable with praying for animals – seems weird to me. I know, not the place to be making such a confession. (I did pray for Roxie once. Fervently, actually, but this is another story.)

So here it is Wednesday evening, three full days and three full nights later, (Coincidence?) and low and behold, whom do I see sitting in my driveway? Oh yeah, it was JJ bunny!  I got out of my car very slowly and walked over to him—calling his name just as I do when I feed him. I couldn’t believe he came right to me. I picked him up and took him to his play-pin while I put his cage back together.

I had my doubts from the moment he went missing, but interestingly enough, a few hours before this, I was talking about this with a friend of mine and I was whining about how they (Justin and Jess) didn’t pay all that much attention to it anyway, so it was probably for the best.

What do I know anyway? It didn’t take long to realize and admit how much I missed the little guy, and when I sent my son a text message to let him know JJ came home, he was so happy!  I guess he took it harder than he let on.  As I said, what do I know anyway?

I am happy to say, that in this case, all ended well and everyone is happy. I am so glad God listened to the heart-felt prayer of my friends and possibly my son’s despite my indifferent attitude.  God forgive me.

JJ’s cage is doubly secure and he shouldn’t be able to escape again. The ball and chain might help. ((Grin))

This sure gives me renewed understanding of the Scripture that says, “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord” (James 1:6-7)

In this case, all the thanks go to my dear friends. Once again, I am learning to appreciate the value and comfort of God’s furry little creatures. It was great holding JJ bunny again J
