I Will Yet Praise Him

This is Callan Writing:

Psalm 42:5

Why are you downcast, O my soul?

Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God,

for I will yet praise him,

my Savior and my God.

We were leading worship this morning and sang a Matt Redman song called Never Let Go. I love the third verse that says

" Yes, I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on

And there will be an end to these troubles

But until that day comes

Still I will praise You, still I will praise You!!"

By the time we are singing the second still I will praise you, it feels like a battle cry from the depth of my soul. I have learned through being around so many wonderful Christians, who are willing to praise God through any and every situation they are going through, that through praise, we gain the victory over the enemy. The adversary is trying to bring us down through ruining our joy with situations or by causing people to let us down constantly. If we voice our problems continually, we ultimately give them power. But if we declare 'all is well' and confess that we are blessed beyond the curse, we start living in the glorious victory of God's promise to us, His salvation, and His abundant life that Jesus came to give us.

The light that we can see is the ability to understand how many blessings God is always bestowing on us, no matter how many earthly problems we may have at any given moment. We can choose what we focus on. I have walked into church with such a bad attitude at times, I am really glad that God is so forgiving. I am thankful that He has taught me that I don't have to grumble, compare myself, or be jealous of others who seem to have so much more than me. If I do that, I am missing all of the great things He has already given me. I am missing the joy of hoping for his promises. I am missing the sweetness of the hugs, hellos, and love that I am getting every time I am around believers in Church. I am missing that He gave me an amazing wife of nearly 15 years, health, provisions, a great city to live in, and countless other things that bless my life. When I focus on God I realize that some people NEVER get the love that I get when I am around believers. What a blessing that is right there!!

Praising him through our challenges also reminds us that He is a God of promises. That faith allows His power to operate in the situation we are waiting for. How many times did Jesus tell people that their faith made them well? These were people who were honoring Him with their words, and they took action to get a touch of His power. Confessing Him as Lord is the way we will find His power to create change for our situation.

1 John 4:2-4

This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. 4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

We can hear voices that tell us that our situation deserves grumbling, but as John says, these sprits are not from God. When we praise God, we can't hear those voices. When we praise God, we are bringing the light to the atmosphere where the darkness cannot dwell! We must get around believers who speak positively about faith, and God's purpose for our life and have the one who is in us help us overcome the sprits of the world through praise of the one who came to save us. We should also keep our minds focused on His word, reading it daily, reminding ourselves that it is true, and that it most certainly applies to our lives. So to quote the last word of 90 year old Mother McCoy's weekly testimony of praise in church at Grace Memorial Church of Deliverance - " Hallelujah!!!! "

Good morning Cal - What a wonderful devotion to read first thing in the morning. I love this, "The light that we can see is the ability to understand how many blessings God is always bestowing on us, no matter how many earthly problems we may have at any given moment." What a beautifully perfect explanation.

I'm blessed you joined us here at WWBS, and I know many others will be blessed as well. Keep sharing :-) Blessings, Teresa
