Speak the Word for Power’s Sake

Life is a roller coaster ride. Good things happen, and we feel great, then in a moment, we get bad news. I was having a great day until I realized our checking account was overdrawn. I was having a great day, I just got prayed up and then my wife just hit her head on the corner of the kitchen cabinet, and is now crying and I have to comfort her.  I was having a great day until...

What do we do? It can be such a let down, and really affect our drive for ministering to others.  Sometimes I have even thought to myself 'maybe if I back off of this serving the Lord, the enemy will leave me alone.  I'm tired of being in the crosshairs of the adversary.'  We know that the enemy tries to rob our joy constantly. But hey, look at the lives of people who don't know Christ.  Can we say they are exempt from the devil's harassment and destructive ways?  No way.  I remind myself daily that I have the Lord to call on when troubles come.  I have to remember there is power in calling on the Holy Spirit's counsel when I need comfort.  There is real change that comes through prayer.  I can't imagine life without this emergency phone line to dial when I need it.

We can accept that the 'thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy' and sometimes acceptance is the best place to start in being able to deal with life's adversity. Jesus knew he would be tempted by the devil throughout his entire life, so he took the steps to make sure that his inner spirit man would have the tools to face it head on. He didn’t spend time whining about it, or being upset. He just faced it and won. He was a man, so like us when it happened, he may have felt weak, and tired of it at times. So what did he do to win? He used the power of the Word. He said He came to give us 'a rich and satisfying life' John 10:10 (New Living Translation)  Le't follow His example and use the Word to

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  I would call having the power to make the enemy leave our presence part of a rich, satisfying life.

It is through confessing the Word that we will be more than conquerors. God has given us the tools of his Word to fight the mental and spiritual battles we face. “Let the weak say I am strong.” Joel 3:10 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Philippians 4:13. The Word is the sword of the spirit in our armor we are to wear. Ephesians 6:11. The Sword is an offensive part of our spiritual clothing, amen. It can be used as defense, but in battle, that sword is much more offensive than the shield, breastplate, helmet, shoes, belt. It is the only thing used to actually kill the enemy, causing the attack to stop.

So what does that word do for us? We are hearing the word spoken out loud. It is creating an atmosphere in the heavenly realm that calls on guardian angels. We can't underestimate the power of the words to change the atmosphere. You know the feeling in the room when a peaceful meeting or a gathering of people gets tense because someone said something wrong, or off-color which turned everybody off. The literal vibrations of the air feel cool, negative, wrong. I believe in the unseen realm, when dark words are being spoken, demons are flying around. I wonder what movie sets of horror, or violent films feel like physically.  After a while, I bet there is a creepiness that is all over the place.

By contrast, what does church feel like when we are in praise and worship, or when the pastor is speaking the Word over the congregation? The peace, warmth, and comfort are indescribable isn't it? It is a totally different atmosphere, and I am sure that the unseen realm is full of angelic presence.

When we speak God’s word over ourselves, we are bringing the light, and chasing away the darkness. The demons cannot dwell where holiness exists. We can’t hear the accusations of the devil when we are making the sounds of holiness by speaking God’s word out loud. The mind can only focus on one thing at a time, and darkness cannot be where there is light.

We can count back to our selves all of the great things God has done for us to remind us of his miracle working power. Let's keep journals of this so we can go back to this and read it all of the time.  I just heard Dr. Charles Stanley say this yesterday on the radio, in a sermon about faith.  Shelley and I have kept lists of our prayer requests, and it is absolutely amazing to read back on the years past, and how the Lord made incredible things happen on our behalf.

We want to continue to renew our minds with the strength of His Word. If you feel weak, say you are strong. If you feel tired, say He renews your strength like the eagle. Call upon the Spirit of the living God to fall fresh on you. Speak the words of Jesus, and say to the storm ‘peace, be still’. This will calm your mind, body, and spirit. And it will keep you in an atmosphere of faith, allowing the anointing of God to be at work in your day.  And finally, use your references to find all of the verses of scripture you can memorize to speak faith into your mind in the moments when you need them.  I love www.biblegateway.com as an amazing tool in modern technology.  Use that, your bible, your pastor's teaching, all that is available around us today for your mental strengthening, and spiritual health.

Thanks so much for your article. If we only knew what power we have in the Word of God. It was good reading, being reminded what a force, and weapon, we have in the Word of God, by the Spirit of God. Blessings,

Thank you for these encouraging words. We all need these reminders. Sometimes we forget the power the word of God has over our minds and how the enemy hates to hear us sing praises and quote scripture - but we must also believe that what we read pertains to us personally. Thank you for sharing what God put in your heart
