But God!

by Cheery Blossom(25)

We have often heard “if” referred to as a very small, yet, a very big word. It is an “out” for someone who doesn’t want to make a commitment, for instance.

I once knew a Doctor who was a little like Pilot. He almost believed. He said that he would believe” “if“ anyone could prove to him whether it was Roman soldiers who guarded the grave of the Christ, or if it was Jewish soldiers. To him, this was a big thing, but perhaps, it was just an easy excuse. I’m sure that we have all heard the “ifs.”

The word that I would like us to think of is “but.” Also a very small word, yet, it carries a lot of power. Read Psalms 49. It is speaking of the fate of those who trust their wealth, and their own selves for everything in life. Now, let’s read verse 15—“BUT God will redeem my soul from the grave; he will surely take me to himself”. What a a dismal outlook of the psalm, until you come to “BUT GOD” What joy to know that all can be changed by that one little word.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, BUT the Word of our God stands forever! What a huge thing to know of a surety that God’s Word is everlasting, and we can fully trust in Him!

In Luke 11, the Scriptures are speaking of Jesus being accused of driving out demons by Beelzebub. Verses 19 and 20 state, “Now if I drive out demons by Beelebub, by whom do your followers drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. BUT if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you.” God’s Power is revealed in that one little word.

In Acts 13:30, there is the “BUT” of resurrection, which changed the whole picture.

“But God raised him from the dead, and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people.” .(also included verse 31) No more sorrow, but lives filled with faith and hope!

Romans 5:8 contains a “BUT” that will change lives completely and make them secure in Him. “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

By the single word, “BUT”, in Romans: 22, and 23, we are assured that we have been set free from sin, because” the wages of sin is death (leaving us hopeless) BUT the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Well, this is only a few times that we find encouragement in God’s Word, just because of that one little Word! That is one little Word that we can stand on, in awe, of our Wonderful God! Study that one little word, and you will be blessed!

Our lives would be very hopeless

Without the “but God’s” in His Word

We’re assured of His provision;

Not believing would be absurd!

One little word reveals to us,

How much our God has intervened!

We’d face a hopeless situation,

“But” through Jesus, we’ve been redeemed!
