As in the grave their loved one lies
Type of all that ever mourn
Who have deepest sorrow borne
Comfortless in loss and woe
Undiminished pain they know
Laid 'mong others now long dead
Marked by tombstones at their head
Christian symbol, angel, cross
Offering hope at time of loss
Names and dates inscribed thereon
Someone's precious daughter, son
Overshad'wing Church and tree
Grey and menacing seem to be
But on a tree a Saviour died
For us all was crucified
Sinless victim ransom paid
In a darkened tomb was laid
Wept outside poor Laz'rus grave
Though His coming He delayed
Martha, Mary, mourners all
Witnessing the Saviour's call-
to Lazarus, “Come out!” they heard him say,
And, “Unbind those clothes without delay”.
So walked forth the once-dead man
Emptied grave, resurrection
And in Christ all dead shall rise
There to meet Him in the skies
Where death itself shall one day die
And there will be no need to cry
The grave has lost it's victory
Through Him who suffered death for me
Raised to life first Easter morn
Temple curtain in two torn
Shedding blood He made a way
Joyful resurrection day!
