Is the Light at the End of the Tunnel a Train or God?
by
Lydia Najera(24)
Sometimes when I am in the middle of my problems, I can’t see any way out. I hear the Lord say, “put your trust and faith in me – walk through the tunnel and I will give the light you need to find your way out.” Soon I see the light, but it’s not a comfort. Instead, I fear, because the light looks more like a train then it does a way out. For the second time I cry and say, Lord what do I do?
Once again, I hear his voice, “Just believe in me because I have already gone before you and it is safe - you will be safe. It doesn’t take long to realize that it is my past that gets in the way of trust. It used to be true that light at the end of the tunnel was a train heading straight toward me, making my problem worse. But this was because I was always walking in the wrong direction for help looking to the ways of the world and quick comfort. God’s gentle voice reminds me that I am no longer walking into the same tunnel of despair, but a new tunnel where true freedom lies. “Let go of the past just let go of the past because I have already set you free from that bondage,” he says.
It is hard putting my trust in another person and/or our Lord and Savior because for most of my life I had to be in control at all times. Growing up, when good things happened it always seemed it wasn't very long before it was bad again. However, as I continue to say, learning to trust God and others through Christ means I need to put all my fears away and follow Jesus Christ and things will get better. Then no matter what I am going through, I will be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and know it is not a train coming at me, instead it is the Light of God bringing freedom from my hurt and pain and reveals a new path for me to walk. Not only do I see it ahead of me, I have already experienced the benefits of walking with God, and each new day takes me further away from the dark path I once walked.
“For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who Trust in Him.” Psalm 18:28-30 (NKJV)
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep Your righteous judgments. I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word.” Psalm 119:105-107 (NKJV)
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
Each of us will fail one another at times, but God will never fail you or me, this is His promise. I pray we all continue to walk down the path that he puts in front of us.
God bless you,
Lydia Najera
