What Do We Do With Our Leisure Time?
by Cheery Blossom(39)Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest... KJV
These are words that I heard very often as a child. Actually, I think they were “revised” just a bit. It was more like, “Anything worth doing, is worth doing well. My brother Gaylord really got that down pat! I was always a klutz, and seemed to never get very much done right, even though I surely tried. At least, I learned well that “killing time” was not acceptable.
Now, we all know that Jesus took His disciples apart to rest a while. Mark 6:31 states “And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going and they had no leisure so much as to eat. Therefore, I believe that Jesus is telling us to use common sense in our lives, but to do well with the things that we undertake to do. You note that the disciples had not even had time to eat, and God does want us to take care of our bodies.
But, many times I have asked someone what they were doing, and the reply was, “Oh, just killing time, I guess.” Time is so precious! We may not always like the things that we have to do, but we should be so thankful if we are able to do anything, regardless of what it is. If God didn’t give us health, and we lay in a hospital bed, we might wish we could do any task, no matter how menial it may seem. We are all allotted a certain amount of time to serve Jesus Christ. How often we fail at our task.
How do I spend my “leisure time”?
Do I find the time to pray?
Do I read the blessed Word of God,
Searching how to serve Him this day?
Or, do I waste the precious time,
Which could be spent with Him?
Thinking only of myself,
Allowing His image grow dim?
For each of our lives, there is a plan.
There is so little time to serve.
As we see the world spin out of control,
Pray we don’t get what we deserve.
