In this season of remembrance- our intercessions are based on John 14

Jesus told his disciples not to let their hearts be troubled
We ask your forgiveness when that is too often the case.
We remember those whose natural inclination is to be troubled.
We pray for all those situations which have the potential to trouble us:
our own health and that of our families
work commitments
economic pressures
world situations including war and climate change
what happens to us and those we love beyond death
Lord we ask you to increase our faith to trust you in all that concerns us- both large and small- to be rightly concerned but not overly troubled... .silence...

Lord you went back to Heaven to prepare a place for each of us,
and one day we will be there with you.
Deepen our assurance of this truth so that we will not fear as we get older or in poorer health.
Comfort us with the certainty of being reunited with those who have died in faith...
silence...

Lord for those of us like Thomas who have honest doubts, help us to express them
and find the truth that brings us peace.... silence. ...

Jesus, the way, the truth and the life,
only through you may we come to the Father.
We pray for those who share the Gospel at home and abroad.
We pray for the work of the Street Pastors.
We pray for Prison and Hospital Chaplains.
Keep them safe, provide all they need, and may they see many coming to know Christ. ...... We pray for their families at home..... silence

We thank you for the revelation of God the Father through Christ the Son.
We pray that through our lives- our words and actions- others may see Christ.
In the places we meet others- where we live and work, relax and socialise , at home or on holiday, may people sense the attractive fragrance of Christ and want to know more about Him... .silence..

In His words and works Christ always glorified the Father.
Help us in the things we say and do in the power of the Spirit to bring glory to God.
Lord, whatever task you have given us within your Church and within our community , we pray that God will be glorified... silence

Teach us to be those who overcome the difficulties of this world,
and know that in Christ we have peace- peace with God, with others and within ourselves.
Helps us to anticipate the day when we shall see Christ in His glory
and find ourselves to be in His image.
The process by which that image is being restored will be complete
and we shall share in the eternal blessings of Heaven... silence...
A prayer by Leslie Weatherhead
We thank you Lord for the worldwide fellowship of your Church.
Break down the barriers that divide her,
and make her more powerfully one.
Reassure us with the certainty that your Church cannot fail,
and that we are part of a great fellowship beyond number
in Heaven and on earth.
Come to us now our God and Father.
Call us back to you and meet us in our need.
For you are the true reality behind all appearance
......the fulfilment of our deepest longing
........and the answer to all our prayers.

Come on Marijo- do keep up! Just joking!!!I do have quite a few other sets of prayers I have written over the years- one on the Good Shepherd, another on the Servant which I may post if the interest is there.I used to think that there was no place for pre-written prayers and that only extemporary ones were "real". Now I believe that the Holy Spirit can inspire as we prepare, as He does for a sermon. And certainly there are some beautiful prayers that have survived hundreds if not thousands of years.Respond to this comment
