Those Traveling Strawberry Plants

by Cheery Blossom(39)

Did you ever notice how determined a strawberry plant can be? You plant them so neatly in perfect, equal spaced rows, give them tender care, water them, weed them, and what do they do? They start sending out tendrils in every direction. If you cut them off, they will just send out more! These tendrils are very determined to reach out in every direction, and when they find a place in the soil that they can penetrate, they begin to grow another tiny strawberry plant!

This tiny strawberry plant feeds off of the mother plant for some time until it is an established plant, and then the old tendril dries up, but the mother plant never gives up, and sends out more to do the same thing, supporting them until they are established. Oh, yes, and the mother plant produces beautiful fruit right through the whole process.

I cannot help but be reminded of the last instructions, given to the disciples, just before Jesus went to sit at the right hand of His Father. Mark 16:15 KJV states, and He said unto them, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” I could not help but think that the strawberry plant was doing by nature, what Jesus expected His children to do. Then, I ask myself, “Why are we so negligent?” I truly believe that it is because we are in a spiritual battle. The natural thing should be to reach out. and, even if we run into opposition, we should just send out another tendril.

This strawberry plant also reminds me of the example that Jesus gave us of discipleship. In Matt.28:24 Jesus also says, “teaching them to observe all things, whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

When I see how naturally the little plant feeds from the mother plant until it is established, I wonder, “How well do we do in helping a new Christian become established in His faith in the Lord. How faithfully do we encourage them in the love of Jesus? Lord, help us to reach out, and feed like the fruit bearing strawberry!

Just a little strawberry plant,

Does its best to multiply.

With all things provided by Christ

Why, then, cannot I?
