God is Watching. Let's Get Back to Basics

by Cheery Blossom(25)

Read Romans Chapter 12.

Romans 12:17b KJV …………provide things honest in the sight of all men.

There are so many “little things” in this life that many people place in a “gray” area. I firmly believe that everything is either black or white to God.

I heard a television program which gave statistics that were appalling to me. They stated that all people were dishonest. If this is true, may God help us! II Corinthians 8:21KJV Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

You will note the command to be honest not only in the sight of men, but in the sight of the Lord. I am sure that God puts us through many tests, hoping that we will come forth as gold.

When we were young, and living from paycheck to paycheck, we had an experience with a grocer that I am satisfied was simply a test from God.

We had been broke before my husband’s check was due. When he received the check, we took it to the bank to be cashed. and headed for the grocery store. This was many years ago, and our grocery order came to a little over $9. My husband gave the grocer a $10 bill. He gave us change for a $20 bill. My husband informed him that he had given us too much money. The grocer, a seemingly prideful man, did not want to admit to an error, so my husband took out his billfold, told him we had just cashed our check and he would check if he had given the grocer what he thought that he had. He counted the money all out for the grocer to see, and the $10 was all that was missing, before adding the change the grocer had given us. The grocer got angry, and said that we were mistaken and to take our groceries and leave. My husband left him a telephone number where we could be reached, and promised him, “When you balance the till tonight, and find out you are short,, just give us a call, and we will bring you your money when we are back in town.” Well, we never heard from that grocer.

Satan seemed to be whispering in my ear, “You really don’t make much money, next time this happens, just don’t say anything and just walk out. After all, you were given back your money and you had your groceries too. And, besides that the man didn’t appreciate it anyway!”

Praise the Lord, when the opportunity arose, I could not walk away, and this time, the person who made the error was extremely grateful that I had pointed out the error. She was an employee who would have had to make up the error herself. I left that store with a firm conviction that honesty was surely the best policy, and I thanked God that He had overpowered Satan’s influence in my life. I would have felt really bad if this young lady would have been harmed by a wrong action on my part.

All of us will run into a similar situation other times in our lives. People aren’t always appreciative, but God is watching. I only regret that I was not a mature enough Christian to use these opportunities to witness for Christ.

This is only one pitiful example of handling the “little things.” I know I’ve failed many times in controlling my words, not loving others above myself, etc. The list could go on and on; but if we are alert to God’s leading, we WILL mature in Him.

The world seems to laugh at our handling of what they feel to be “minor things,” but you will find that when they are “down and out,” most will choose a Christian to confide in. When this happens, let us be prepared to point them to our Savior! We will stumble if we do not keep our eyes on Him. “Little things” are so important to our Christian lives.

My Prayer----May I not fail You in “little things,”

That the world considers so small;

Because when I meet You face to face,

I want to have given You all!

Thoroughly cleanse me, point out my sins,

And draw me much closer to You.

Help me overcome temptations,

And submit in all that I do!

Amen

Thanks for Teresa!  I think "simple" is a good way of describing my style of writing.  I really felt that I didn't do well on this one, so I really appreciate your comment!

I have written checks to grocery stores when I found out they didn't charge me for something. They tell me that they can't put it in after the fact because it messes up their till - SO I mail the check in and give them a little letter mentioning why. Loved this piece and could I relate.
