Intercessions: 4th Sunday of Epiphany 31st January 2010
St. John's Newport, Isle of Wight, UK.
O God, we draw to an end this year's celebration
of the Saviour's birth
Help us in whom He has been born,
to live his life that has no end.
We thank you for Mary and Joseph, entrusted with parenting Jesus, from whom he learned obedience and the value of occupation.
We pray for all who parent children today, who balance the need for health and risk, with concerns for safety. We pray that the values of obedience and worthwhile occupation may be instilled, together with an example of faith in God. Help us to support families within our Church and our Parish.
On this Education Sunday, we pray for the joint Diocesan Education Dept for Portsmouth and Winchester. For all who work and study in our schools and colleges, and for those taking exams this year.
We have offered the Church's sacrifice of praise
Help us who receive Christ the Bread of life,
to be thankful for your gift
We continue to pray for those needing relief in Haiti, for water and food, medicine and shelter. We thank you for all the relief agencies and those rescued, and ask you to comfort those who mourn.
For our worldwide Anglican communion, and today for the Church in New Zealand and Polynesian Aotearoa and their Archbishop William Turei
We have rejoiced with faithful Simeon and Anna
Help us who have found the Lord in his temple
to trust in your eternal promises
We pray for all who minister in your Church:
The announcement of our new Bishop of Portsmouth
The advertisements and applicants for the next Vicar of Newport
We have greeted the Light of the world
Help us who are bearers of this light
never to forsake the light of Christ
We pray for all who take your light to other parts of our world- David and Heather Sharland
Jenny Walker and her YWAM team- answered prayer for accommodation, and continued support for Jenny as she leads the team, and safety in all they do.
For “Love Russia” and Christian Aid
In our Church Year, we turn from Christ's birth towards his passion
Help us for whom Lent is near
to enter deeply into the Easter mystery
During this week we remember those who died and suffered in the Holocaust.
We pray for those whose suffering continues to this day.
We thank you for the West Wight production of Pharoah to Freedom, and the support given by members of St. John's. We ask you to continue to bless those who came that they may know the love of Christ through his death and resurrection.
Light of the world
Light of the world
Enter into the depths
of our lives.
Come into the dark
and hidden places.
Walk in the storehouse
of our memories.
Hear the hidden secrets
of the past.
Plumb the very depth
of our being.
Be present through
the silent hours.
And bring us safely
to your glorious light.
