Some Things We Can Not Recover

by Cheery Blossom(39)

Have we ever stopped to think that there are some things in life that once they are done, can never be erased? Forgiven, yes, but these things seem to have to be repeatedly covered by the blood of Jesus!

Let’s consider: A stone thrown!
Check the account of Stephen, in Acts chapter 6:8 through Chapter 8:1. The apostle Stephen was stoned for his belief, and the Apostle Paul was there, and consented to it and even held the clothes of those who did the stoning. Check in Acts 22:20KJV And when the blood of the martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.
These stones that were thrown could never be recovered, and it is obvious that it troubled Paul immensely after he had followed Christ himself.

The Occasion after the Loss:
The story is told of a man who felt compelled to talk to his waiter in a restaurant, about receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, yet, it seemed like not a very opportune time, and he walked out of the restaurant. Again, the Spirit impressed him that he should talk to this waiter about Christ, so he decided to wait outside until the waiter came out to go home. At last the restaurant owner walked out and locked the door. He asked the gentleman what he could do for him, and the man told him that he wanted to talk to the waiter that had waited on him in the restaurant. The owner replied, “I’m sorry, no one will ever talk to him again. He just went home to his room and shot himself “That soul will never be recovered!

What about a broken marriage, or a run-away child who never comes home. Many things cannot be recovered!

The Time after it is Gone:
God commands us to not forsake gathering ourselves together. Hebrews 10:25KJV Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. We see in Acts: 2:42 that the early believers set the example. “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles ‘doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Why were they steadfast? They were fully converted and wanted to learn all they could to walk in the path that Jesus had asked them to follow. Do we ever think that the very time we are absent, could be the time when God’s Holy Spirit would have talked just to us, and we missed it? I have often thought of special times when the Lord touched my life and truly helped me to change some things about myself. What if I had missed that opportunity? The same opportunity will never return. Following Christ is the only thing that will count in eternity. May we really mean it when we make that decision to follow Him. “II Corinthians 5:17KJV Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
This is only one example of what we lose when the time is passed, we can never recover the time we have lost, or the insight we could have gained.

The Word After it is Spoken:
How many times have we said something that we wish we had never said, perhaps, an angry word, perhaps repeating something that we knew that we should not say? The scriptures have a lot to say about the sins of the tongue.
James 1:26 If a man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart; this man’s religion is vain.
James 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth.
I Peter 3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile.

There is a story told of a lady who spread some gossip that was not true. She went to her pastor with a repentant heart, and asked what she could do to make up for this terrible deed. He told her to go home and shake the feathers out of a pillow out of her back door, and come back. Then, when she came back, he told her to go home and pick them all up. Of course, she realized the impossibility of doing this. She now realized the extent of her misdeed. Do we realize the seriousness of the use of our tongue? Lord help us conquer the so-called “little things” in our lives that leave indelible marks on our lives, and on the lives of others!

Hi Verna, I agree with Marijo completely. Thank you for these very important reminders. You remind me of another lesson - Remembering the things we should forget, and forgetting the things we should remember - I have something brewing as I am studying the book of Exodus right now. Love and blessings - keep your words of wisdom flowing here for all of us to read :-) T

Thanks for your comment, whoever you are. Isn't God wonderful? His Word is so full of blessings. There are times that I spend more time reading and writing than I really have to spare. Will be looking for an article on things to remember and things to forget. Great topic!
