Almost but Lost

There are so many truths in the early chapters of the Gospels. The whole purpose of mankind is written there. I will try to point out some things that may be revealed as we truly study the impact of the lives mentioned there.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, wise men came from the east and asked King Herod where Jesus was located. They had studied the stars and had discovered a new and brighter star. After studying the scriptures, they were convinced that the Savior of mankind had come.

Herod talked with the scribes and the priests, and discovered where Jesus was to be born. Feeling that this was a threat to his throne, Herod commanded the wise men to go to Bethlehem, and find Him, and come back and tell him where Jesus was, so that he could go and worship Him.

The wise men were warned in a dream, that Herod was not going to worship Jesus, but cause Him harm, and they went back another way. When Herod realized his demands were not granted, he took things into his own hands and ordered all of the babies 2 years old and under to be killed in Bethlehem and the surrounding territory. An angel warned Joseph, and they had taken the baby Jesus to Egypt, where He would be safe.

The point is, Herod believed the prophesy, but he thought he would stop God’s plan. After all, he was the king! He was not ready for the Christ to rule the world. Perhaps he wouldn’t have minded if it were not that he was the King. He couldn’t give up his pride to go worship One who might usurp his throne.

Yes, Herod believed that the Savior had come. His was a head belief. He had no desire to be submissive to anyone else, regardless of the cost. Check scripture in Luke 2.

Joseph, Mary, and Jesus stayed in Egypt until Herod had died. Herod had lost all opportunity to spend eternity in heaven, due to selfish pride. All Jesus would have asked of him, would have been to give Him his heart. Christ was not in position to take over his throne at that time.

Pilot also gave up his opportunity, by condemning Jesus to die. He felt the need to wash his hands after he had done this. He was convicted, but tried to remove the guilt that he felt on his own.

Many people try the same tactics today. Either they put off receiving Christ until it is too late, or try to do things on their own, to relieve their guilt. Still, in love, Jesus is calling “Give me your heart.”

When Apostle Paul was before King Agrippa, King Agrippa said “Almost thou persuade me to be a Christian. Read Acts26:28

“Almost” is one of the saddest words in the dictionary. There may never be another opportunity. Don’t try to be an “almost” Christian. “Almost” is still as lost as one can be.

When one receives Christ, we do not walk alone! Jesus is coming again. That, too, is in the Scriptures, the same as the account of His birth. How many people believe the Scripture, and are not ready for that day? It will be too late when Jesus breaks through the sky. There is only one way to spend eternity in heaven. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and Thou shalt be saved! Acts 16:31 When we receive Him, and walk humbly in His paths, we will be blessed.

Oh yes, come Lord Jesus, and change this world we’re in.

There’s so much sin around us, worse than it’s ever been.

My life and faith are challenged, each and every day.

I know things would be better if You’d take us away!

I know it is Your love that causes this delay.

Help me to do my part, to spread Your Word, and pray.

My heart is torn within me, when I think of the lost;

May I serve You with my life, and never count the cost!
