Coping with My Dad's Illness and Giving all Glory to God!

by Lydia Najera(24)

Romans 5:2-4 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

Still as a new believer of Christ I tend to forget to give God all the Glory in my life; good or bad. No matter what is going on in my life, I need to remember that some of the same things are happening in other peoples lives as well. I am not the only one that things happen to. I say this now because of  what is going on right now with my father. He is really sick and I am being really selfish.

My father has Hepatitis C. Although it is incurable, he is going through a treatment that is similar to chemo - and it is making him very sick . My flesh says why did you come here to get to know him and let yourself love him. Why bother seeing the changes he has made in the Lord and how he has given himself completely over to Him. And not only that, but lives to bring others to Him as well.

I am watching him fade to his death and it hurts really bad so I am saying,
if only I did not come, I would be better off, but then the Lord says "No, I brought you here to come to Me." This is where giving all the Glory to God comes in because he has changed my life so much, and has given me a life that I have never had. One of peace, love, and understanding that Jesus suffered for all of us. I am not the only one going through something like this. God is going through it as well.

I lost my mother at 6 years of age and now I am losing my father and my feelings are all over the place because I have been able to see the love of the Lord in my father's eyes and now I have the love of the Lord in my life in the same way.

2 corinthians 5: 12  says, "For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance and not in heart. For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause."

I am finding that we all have a purpose in this life and it is to be and to do God's will and to live the way that he has intended us to live, and that is a life led of the holy Spirit and not another. If I live the way that He intends me to live, I will see my dad in heaven and I will not lose him at all, of course I will lose his physical body but I will not lose his spirit because it will be with the Lord.

I will give all the glory to our Lord Jesus because He is the one that brought my father and me back to each other so that we could make peace with one another as well as to forgive each other for the pain that we caused in each others life.

Thank you Lord for all that you have given to my father in you and I give you all the glory for saving our lives.

Isaiah 53:2  says, "It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God."

Love in Christ

Hi Lydia, thank you for sharing your heart. Such honesty gives us all the courage to "work out our own salvation with fear and trembling" You are never afraid to share the struggles of being a new believer - but I want to encourage you, us "old" believers struggle too - the flesh always wants to get in the way of what the Spirit is doing. So glad to have you share again. Love you and miss you talking to you too - Some day my life will settle down... :-)
