Give us this day our daily bread- Intercessions for Rogation Sunday

We pray for all in the agriculture industry at this time of sowing seeds,

acknowledging our dependence on God for every good and perfect gift.

We pray for our weather- a balance of rain and sunshine and for a good harvest.

Give us this day our daily bread

We pray for our arable farmers- producing grain for feed and for our daily bread

For the increased production of bio-fuels and the science and research behind it.

We pray for our agricultural engineers as they begin their busiest season-

for good health and safety from injury.

for those who raise animals: pigs and sheep

and especially our beleaguered dairy industry

the difficulties in moving animals

and not having an abattoir on the Isle of Wight.

Give us this day our daily bread

For those who add value by producing cheese, yoghurt and ice-cream, jams and chutneys.

For those who have had to diversify into Farm Shops and Tea-rooms

Bed and breakfast and holiday accommodation

For apple orchards, vineyards and fruit growers.

We pray for those who keep bees- producing honey- and the threats to the bee population on which so much growth depends.

Give us this day our daily bread

For commercial growers like Wight salads- Europe's largest area of organic tomatoes. For Staples producing cauliflowers. For those who grow garlic.

We pray for the NFU and the Royal Agriculture Benevolent Institute especially during times of disaster like foot and mouth

WE pray for the high suicide rate among farmers- due to financial pressures prices squeezed down by large Supermarkets and the loneliness of working long hours. We pray too for wives and families.

Give us this day our daily bread

We pray for all gardeners and allotment holders. And for schools promoting gardening

We pray for Ventnor Botanic Gardens and their funding difficulties, and places like Kew and its National seed bank at Wakehurst Place, and the Eden Project in Cornwall.

For all who grow what we need from seeds- whether in gardens, farms or commercial

growers, we ask that you will bless their hard work, and help us to realise our dependency on you. Give us this day our daily bread

Let us say together the family prayer

Our Father in Heaven

Hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done

On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.....
