Therefore my beloved brethren, Be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. I Corinthians 15:5
This morning, I took a shower, and realized that my shower spray was nearly empty. As I try to keep a refill bottle on hand, I decided to fill it.
Somehow, it always seems that I think I am in a hurry, poured a little fast, and spilled some of the spray in the sink.
With a little control, and yes, “steadiness,” the bottle began to fill steadily with far less difficulty.
Immediately I thought of the verse in the Scriptures, “Be ye steadfast- (see Scripture above) I could not help but think that trying to accomplish too much is a greater waste of time and energy than taking a more even pace. When I poured in an even stream, nothing was wasted.
So it is in serving the Lord. Much more is accomplished by a steady, dependable life; with our eyes glued to our goal. God rewards faithfulness! (Excuse the exclamation point, but this is exciting.)
Yes, we must pause to refill the bottle, but perhaps there is also a lesson here.
If we rush over the reading of the Word, not taking time to absorb it, we may lose some of the precious thoughts that God has placed in the Scriptures., things that will keep us “steadfast, and unmovable” in our Christian life.
Let’s keep the “bottle” filled with God’s Spirit; and walk steadily towards the goal.
Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize which is before us, of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13b.-14
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the little happenings in life that help us to better understand and apply the admonitions of Your Word. These things help us to pause, and examine our lives. May I always be faithful to You. May I always have a desire for the re-fillings of the Guide Book, which You so faithfully have provided. Keep my eyes focused on You. Amen
