Engagement Ring: She Needs It!
by Efoghor Joseph Ezie(11)jossyhealth
Dick quietly slid the engagement ring unto Tessy’s finger, as she struggled and stammered to say the word “Yes, I will marry you”, to his simple question, “will you marry me?” They hugged as she finally muttered the words.
Engagement ring is usually given to a lady to show that she is engaged to be married. The essence is to scare away every potential suitor and let them know that she belongs to someone else. It is usually given to the lady to show how serious the man is, and that he wants the relationship to culminate in marriage.
Every lady that is dating or in a serious relationship hopes that she would be given an engagement ring one day by her suitor. It is cherished very much like the wedding ring.
It adds value and colour to the relationship: it is also a way of assuring her of her security and making her relaxed. She feels safe after she is engaged to you and is sure you are going to take the next step – traditional marriage, court marriage or church wedding.
Engagement rings are usually made of silver, gold, diamond, palladium, platinum etc. They could be cheap or expensive, depending on the quality and carat weight. You could get an average one for about $300 or less, while the ones with higher quality usually are more expensive. For instance, an engraved 14k white gold cathedral style diamond ring with diamond band goes for as high as $2,300 or more. A 14k white gold diamond twisty ring with matching plain band would be obtained for close to $1000. Diamond with gemstones e.g. Diamond with blue sapphires or red rubies is beautiful and could be gotten for an average price. A 14k white gold princess three stone ring with blue sapphire side stones goes for between $600 - $1,000.
What should you look out for when buying an engagement ring?
1. Cut: This is responsible for the brilliance and sparkle of the ring. If well cut, the ring glitters better. The cut has to do with the symmetry, proportions and finish not necessarily with shape.
2. Carat weight: This is the unit of the weight of the diamond: with one carat (derived from the carob seed) being equivalent to 100 points or one-fifth of a gram. The higher the carat weight, the higher the per-carat price.
3. Colour: This depends on the person who needs it, as different individuals prefer different colours. However, diamond colours are graded on a lettered scale from D-Z, with D being the whitest and most expensive.
4. Clarity: Also depends on the individuals’ preference. Usually, the differences are not easily spotted except with the aid of a magnifier. It is better to go for the ones with ring stones, with clarity grade of S12 or more. In a nutshell, clarity has to do with the presence or absence of impurities.
Why not go for an affordable engagement ring for that lady you have been dating and ask her to be your wife? Sum up courage and give her that sweet surprise.
