Don't Be a Bat

by Cheery Blossom(27)

Read Revelation 3:14-22

This selection in Revelation has always appeared to refer to the day and age in which we live, and it always speaks to me when I read it. I do not want to be a lukewarm Christian, or worse than that, one who portrays the wrong example of the life of a Christian.

I have read about a story that is told about animals and birds quarreling. There was a bat that fought with the animals if the animals seemed to be winning, but he took wing, and joined the birds if they appeared to be winning.

I fear that there are many of us who do not have a firm foundation, and are not solid as to where they stand in their walk with Christ. I believe that we truly need to search the Word, and become more stable.

In Joshua 24:15, the Scripture states, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord”

This is an age old Spiritual battle which people of all generations have fought, but sometimes it appears that we are losing ground, and want to create gray areas to consider. I do not find “gray areas” in the Bible. We are told so specifically how we should live. So many people take Sunday as a day to do most anything but worship Christ, and the Lord Himself set that day aside as a day of rest and worship.

There is a lot of argument about the law, but Jesus said that He came not to destroy the law, or the prophets. Matt. 5:17b: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

I wish this were the only example of what our generation considers “normal” I guess that I am saying that in the Spiritual battle we are in, we cannot be on every side of a conflict, we must take a stand for all that Jesus Christ stood for. Let’s be careful that we are not “Bats” or, perhaps a better word, “hypocrites.” Judgment is real for us as well as the world.
