Thanksgiving Meditation

by Cheery Blossom(29)

In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I Thessalonians 5:18

But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brothers beloved of the Lord . II Thessalonians

We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers. I Thessalonians 1:2

A few years ago, a friend of mine told me that each year; she wrote a Thanksgiving letter to someone who had a special place in her heart.

I was suddenly ashamed that I had never thought of doing this before, as a list of names of people began to roll in my mind. Some of these people had already gone to be with Jesus, and I had never specifically expressed to them, just how much they had meant to me, and all of the things that I had learned from them.

The apostle Paul, had surely set the example centuries ago, as in each epistle he thanked God for those he was contacting. I had never truly received the message. He thanked God and the people often.

Yes, I am so thankful for all of the wonderful people that God placed in my life at a strategically perfect time in my life. There were many who so lovingly set an example, or showed me something new from God’s Word. These were people who lived what they spoke, and yet said very little; but they were there for me, prayed for me, and prayed with me.

Yes, I have often thanked God for them, but I had never expressed from my heart just what a blessing they were in my life.

Well, this has changed. Each year I have begun to choose someone from my life contacts, to express my heartfelt thanks in a Thanksgiving letter. This has been such a blessing to me personally, just to sit down and write to someone who has been special to me. I believe that through this act, I have become a more thankful person

Won’t you join me, and express your thanks to a very special person this year? It is a good habit to get into, and a joy to pick out someone special each year to write that special letter to.

Great reminder! A while back I dediced to keep a journal of 10 things I was grateful for everyday. 10 specific things. The challenge was that I had to come up with 10 different things every day. I kept it up for almost 6 months (the longest I ever kept a personal journal!). It's amazing how many things you can find to be thankful for when you just start listing them off. Society in general takes so much for granted. Even the little things like eyelashes do you know how much dust and junk they keep out of your eye every day??? I would never have thought about it until a friend of mine had chemo and lost hers then tried to walk her son to school on a windy day. Anyway, point is, being thankful for things really does change your perspective. It is hard to keep focus on your problems when you concentrating on ways to be thankful. Thanks for your post!
