Discussion Questions John 3:1-21 Part Two: Why We Need to Be Born Again

by Teresa(1,656) Bronze Star

Read John 3:1-21

In this portion of Scripture Jesus made it abundantly clear that mankind must be born again by the Spirit of God. He made strong statements about the consequences of not believing in Him and whom He claimed to be.

Based on these first three chapters of John alone,  we have enough information to make a conscious decision on whether or not we are going to receive the truth.

Read John chapters 1-3, then answer the following questions.

1) By what means does a person become a child of God?

2) What does it mean to be born again?

3) At what point is a person condemned?

4) Is Jesus responsible for the condemnation of man?

Many Christians around the world do not have access to the Bible. They have very little information, some nothing more than just believing there is a Creator.

1) Based on this portion of Scripture, can a person with this limited knowledge be born again?

2) Does this add to your understanding of the sovereignty of God? Explain.

For those who do have access, there is much more to learn:

"Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat; for in the day the you eat of it you shall surely die." Genesis2:15-17

Read Romans 5:12-19; 1 Corinthians 15:42-49; Ephesians 2:1-3; 1 Peter 1:22-23, then answer the following questions and note the passage the answer is found.

1) When did sin enter into the world?

2) In whose image are we born?

3) By nature, whose children are we?

4) List the common contrasts in all of these passages ie. In Adam/In Christ;  dead/alive.

5) What comes first, the physical or the spiritual?

6) How do these passages further your understanding of the need to be born again?

7) How do these passages further your understanding of Jesus' words, "I have not come into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through me might be saved"?

8) Who or what is responsible for the condemnation (death) of man?

There is much more to learn and discuss on this portion of Scripture. Please share your questions and or thoughts.

May the Lord continue to bless you as you seek to know Him in a deeper way; may your learning give you a deeper love for your Savior.

Have you been born again?
