Read John 4:43-54
Jesus traveled from Samaria back to Galilee. He was well received by the Galileans because of all that he did while at the feast in Jerusalem.
In this portion of Scripture, we get a glimpse of the sadness which was filling the heart of Jesus. It is evident by his response to the nobleman who insisted He go to Capernaum to heal his son"
"Then Jesus said to him, 'Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe'" John 4:48
As he continued toward home, this man's servants came to greet him and to let him know that his son was alive and well. After confirming the hour his son's condition changed, his faith was sure, not only his, but his entire household. This was the second sign (miracle) that Jesus performed.
On the surface, this section seems little more than just a recorded event. However, the Holy Spirit moved John to write this account. Why? What else can be seen from the text?
Consider the amount of teaching Jesus has done from His first miracle of turning water into wine. Why do you suppose Jesus made the comment about signs and wonders? What do you suppose would have come of this man and his household if Jesus did not heal his son - and what was it that Jesus did while at the feast in Jerusalem.
We will tackle these thoughts in the discussion questions here.

You have to wonder if they would have believed if the miracle hadn't been theirs.... hopefully we will learn from this example.» left by Anonymous (1 year 69 days ago.)
Hi Marijo. Exactly. It's that double-edged sword. Jesus knows the heart of man. He performed miracles to prove his Indentity, and because he loves, but He also knew that too much reliance on miracles would cause many to be deceived down the road. I suppose we could have fallen into this catagory if we were alive during this time. Thanks for the thought! Blessings and love! T
