"Then Jesus said to him, 'Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.'" John 4:48

If you haven't read the summary, you can do so here.

Read John 4:43-54

There are two questions that arose for this portion of Scripture; the statement Jesus made to the nobleman and the results of what took place because Jesus healed his son. What becomes evident, is that there are pros and cons to signs and wonders. Let's explore:

Read the following passages, and then answer the questions below

John 20:30; John 4:53; Exodus 7:8-13; 2 Corinthians 11:13-15; 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10; Matthew 12:38-40; John 20:24-29

THE PROS

1) What is the purpose of signs?

2) Why was it important for Jesus to perform signs during his ministry on earth?

3) What did God tell Aaron to do to prove he and Moses were sent from God?

4) What was the result of Jesus healing the man's son?

THE CONS

1) Whom beside Jesus can perform signs?

2) What is the purpose of these signs?

THE CONCLUSION

1) From John 1:1 - John 4:54, make of a list of the signs (miracles) Jesus performed, and a list of truth's he taught.

2) What did Jesus say to Thomas?

3) What are the dangers of seeking after signs as our whole basis for faith?

Read the following passages, then answer the following questions.

Isaiah 42:8; 43:10-13; 1 John 4:1

4) What signs and wonders do we hear about today? Are they from God or from Satan?

5) How can we know the difference?

The bottom line is that anything that will take our eyes off of Jesus and draw our attention to other - so called entities is not of God. Sadly, many people are drawn into false signs and wonders as a result of losing a loved one. But as believers, we need to trust in the word of God above all else.

Please share your thoughts. It may be useful to do a study on Satan and his tactics since the beginning. If you have something to add, please do so. If you are interested in more information, let me know.

John us as we continue our study. The summary for chapter 5 will follow shortly.

We need to seek the giver and not the gift - but it actually says in the Bible to seek the best gifts (I think the best one is whatever fits the situation and the Holy Spirit can use any of us as a willing vessel - FRUIT indicates maturity and growth...gifts are, well, gifts and can flow through anyone God wants to use who says yes at the right moment.

HE is able and we, are but dust..... yielded dust works though...GRIN
