Thank you for your question regarding John 3:14 and John 12:32. These are two powerful Scriptures. In context, each time, Jesus is referring to His upcoming crucifixion. What He is saying is that His death is an essential part of the Father's plan of salvation.
As believers, we are to be a light to a dying world and we too are to draw others to Jesus. We do this by following his example. Only our death is not literal as it was for Jesus. It is the process of dying to our sinful nature. The more we allow Jesus to live through us, the more we look like him. In this way, we "lift Jesus up" so that others will see His love and goodness through our lives of obedience and a character that reflects love and grace to those who are watching.
Are you familiar with the book of Romans and Ephesians?
I suggest reading the book of Ephesians as it is only 6 chapters long. In it is all of our responsibilities as a believer, though not out of obligation, but as a response to what God has done for us.
Romans 12:2 says, " And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God"
If we live a lifestyle that matches our profession of faith, others will be drawn to God. This does not mean we have to be perfect, nor should we pretend to be. Instead, it is our goal to grow in the knowledge of God by faithfully studying His word and seeking the Holy Spirit to teach us. In addition to the learning, we have to be sure and allow our hearts to be softened and changed so that we are humbled and remain humble throughout our lives.
Peter says we are to be ready to give an answer to those who ask for the reason we have hope. We need to show them by our actions first, and then our words.
This was no small question :-) But I do hope this has pointed you in the right direction. Hi MJ. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Ephesians study. So blessed to hear you are learning and being challenged. One of the gals at work just purchased one and has asked me to go through it with her. I am looking forward to it. I think we are starting next week. I'm sure I am due for another growth spurt as a direct result of Ephesians. As if going through John isn't enough. lol.
I'm up to 2-3 days a week lunch time bible studies now :-) Praise the LORD!
