Frightened Freshman

by Marijo Phelps(180) Red Star

Written back when I didn't know Jesus and was off to college - can't help but reflect on how different thing would have gone in my life had I known our Lord back then:

Silent, wide-eyed and frightened
Afraid to look left
Afraid to look right
Afraid they are laughing
At me.

Hide under hair!
Hair in my eyes
Protecting me
The wind blows it aside
And I’m bare for the world to see

Scared and afraid, with eyes watching
EVERYWHERE!
Hide, Hide, HIDE!!!
Where? WHERE can I hide???
Away- with no one to laugh
Stare, admire or put me on a pedestal.

AWAY, Away, away,
Please, away?
Please help me?
So lost –
IT so big
And I so small….

Look at all the talent you had then. Just sitting there, being the Poet that you are. Isn't it poignant looking back? God loves us all the while we go through our drama and our fear. Thanks for your offering.

Thanks Christofer - I love writing poetry and have been doing it since I was 4 when mom wrote down what was coming out of my mouth!
