Zeph 3:20 At that time I will bring you in, at the time when I gather you together; for I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes,” says the Lord.
2 Thess 2:1 describes the gathering of saints at the coming of Jesus. The greater context, 2 Thess 1:5 to 2:12, expands in a different way upon much of what Zephaniah says in his closing statements, particularly this final verse. Paul reminded the Thessalonians that God is just and will grant ultimate relief when Jesus returns. Evil will be punished, but in the meanwhile believers are urged to do good works through faith by his power. Paul next urged them not to worry about unfounded stories about Christ’s return because a number of signs must first be fulfilled including a great rebellion and the appearance of a man of lawlessness. Peter provided a similar explanation in his second letter (2 Pe 3:1-13). A time will come when Jesus returns and gathers to himself all the elect of God. The fullness of the glory prepared for believers will then be realized. We who believe in Jesus, trusting him for salvation and living our faith with love and active obedience, have hope for an abundant eternal life in the presence of our Lord (Rev 7:15-17).
Thus ends this series on Zephaniah.
