He Who is Without Sin: Summary of John 8:1-11

by Teresa(1,352) Bronze Star

Read John 7:45-8:11

It is apparent the majority of the Jewish leaders challenged Jesus during his three-year ministry. He hadn't much rest when the next challenge arose.

We read of the scribes and Pharisees who brought a woman caught in the act of adultery to Jesus, quoting the Law of Moses. Interestingly, they did not quote the entire context of the law, and they did not bring both parties. Why is this? This is evidence of how we as people choose parts of God's laws on which to focus. Isn't it funny how it's the part that relates to others and not ourselves.

Jesus, knowing the intent of the hearts of those men, made a strong argument against their behavior without saying a word. Instead, he wrote, and one by one they left the scene.

While Jesus did not condemn the woman, he made it clear he didn't condone her behavior by telling her not to sin any longer.

In this short, but powerful section, we learn several things:

1) We must follow the entire Law if we are going to use it to condemn others.

2) We must be without sin if we are going to point out the sin of others.

3) Once forgiven, we cannot continue in sin.

What was the entire context of the Law quoted by these men? How did their actions reveal the intent of their hearts? What did the actions of Jesus reveal about the Law?

Join us as we explore these questions by combining the Old Testament and the New testament to see how Jesus used this scene as an example of how he always included the spiritual implications when dealing with the physical condition of man.

Discussion questions to follow shortly.

I think you have something here. As a matter of fact, it is "BOOK." Good questions for thought also. There are answers.

You are correct; there are answers, we need only search them out through God's word. Blessings! Teresa
