What Are The Odds?

by Steve Camara

What are my chances of success in life with God and without God?

If I choose to live my life on my own, can I still succeed in this world?

Will God let us "run away" from Him and be disobedient?

Ah, the battle of ME and GOD. This is a very famous and repeated battle that has commenced and continued since the begining of mankind's existence.

The book of Jonah suggests that it is not an easy thing to run from God. When God calls us, He encourages us and corrects us, so that we may fully understand our relationship with Him and His love for us.

Yes, God gives us free choice to disobey Him. But He is the Creator of ALL THINGS! The question we must be asking ourselves is, "Why would I rather live my life under my own power, when I can live life connected with The Author of all existence?"

Let's look at what is up against us in this Life.

1. Our limited understanding,

2. Our sinful nature,

3. Other people's sinful natures (the pressures of this fallen world)

4. The influence of Satan and his demons.

So, yes, we can live this life all on our own. God loves us so much that He created us with the ability to make choices! Sometimes that choice is to live without seeking God. Many people choose this path and seem to be very happy and successful. But what spirit are they truly working for and under?

When their time on this world is at and end, all they will be able to account for, when they face God, is their own deeds. Although they may think their deeds are generaly good, God's word says otherwise. Without God, all our deeds are subject to our sinful natures. Jeremiah 17:9,10

It is our responsibilty to decide how we will live. But the odds in this world are truly against us. Having a real relationship with God doesn't just even the odds, it transcends them. The bible says, "If God is for us, who can be against us!" Romans 8:31

In Jesus Name!
