This week I had the opportunity to be part of a group discussion in a wonderful church. The pastor asked me to help facilitate the conversation surrounding a traumatic event that occurred that Sunday during service. A young man collapsed during the service and everyone witnessed the scene. He began to have convulsions and stopped breathing right before their eyes.
As you can imagine, everyone was terrified. They didn’t know what was going on. Many told of their deep inner thoughts and shared their feelings of doubt, shame, guilt, hopelessness and fear. What an honor it was to hear their stories. What courage these individuals have in showing up to this meeting and being honest and vulnerable enough to share their experience, not just with such a stranger like myself, but with everyone in the room.
Back to the story… The young man was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with sudden death syndrome (SDS). He ended up in a coma for days… The family was told that nobody diagnosed with SDS wakes up and to begin funeral preparations. Needless to say, everybody at this church began to pray. The day of our meeting, the young man woke up! The nurses and doctors were amazed! He was sitting up watching television and recognized everyone.
So this story ends with a happy ending, but in the meantime, they are dealing with dusting off the sand from the storm; many still have mixed emotions, some fear that it could happen to them at any moment, others were reminded of past traumatic experiences and now have to deal with unfinished work, and yet others are dealing with their lack of reaction to the event (a certain numbing), which resulted in guilt.
One thing was evident in this group of individuals – they are part of an experience that radically changed their lives and their church – one that God will use for His Glory! So, on my way back home that night, “I Lift My Hands” by Chris Tomlin was playing on the radio. It summarizes the spirit of faith, unity and strength this church embraces. This group thanked me for assisting them in their discussion, but little do they know that I’ve been the one that left fully blessed. I left inspired and with a renewed faith, knowing that God is still in the business of miracles. So, LET FAITH ARISE!
Be still, there is a healer
His love is deeper than the sea
His mercy, it is unfailing
His arms are fortress for the weak
Let faith arise
Let faith arise
I lift my hands to believe again
You are my refuge, You are my strength
As I pour out my heart
These things, I remember
You are faithful, God, forever
Be still, there is a river
That flows from Calvary's tree
A fountain for the thirsty
Pure grace that washes over me
Let faith arise
Let faith arise
Rest in His Word:Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Thank you Edith for sharing this experience. It brought a tear to my eye and a lift to my soul!I believe in miracles! They may be big ones - like this heartwarming story, or small day-to-day ones - such as the answer to a puzzling matter, but they are everywhere when we put our attention on them and trust in Him... God bless. Teresa
